More about Rohn
Rohn Lawrence (Sept 5, 1960 – Dec 30, 2021) was a genre-crossing guitar virtuoso whose blend of jazz, R&B, and pop earned him a reputation as a masterful sideman and solo artist. Born in West Haven, Connecticut, Rohn was self-taught, learning by ear as a child and going on to work with legends of contemporary music
Musical Style
-
Rohn Lawrence was a self-taught (autodidact) guitarist who learned by ear with very few formal lessons—reportedly only about ten in his whole life. His career spanned decades. He toured nationally and internationally—performing in the U.S. (nearly all 50 states except a few), as well as in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he lived for a period. Rohn was known for his versatility, he played across jazz, rock, R&B, pop, even metal, and was often hired to mimic guitar styles like Eddie Van Halen, Larry Carlton, or Carlos Santana—including work on TV commercials for major brands. In his later years, he returned to New Haven, where he anchored the local music scene with weekly gigs at venues like Lilly’s Pad at Toad’s Place and performed community events, festivals, and fundraisers regularly — while also mentoring younger musicians throughout the region
